Change Of Plans

I have my ATM exam on the 30th and I was gearing up for the same today. I had finished 3 chapters by mid morning and I realised I was a little ahead of schedule. It was at this junction that I thought I might rest awhile.
The next time I opened my eyes was when I realised that the shorter arm of the clock was at 8 and the longer one at 12.
Uh oh ... The next 2 hours were marked by a visit to my IP's place and getting my notes in place for the ordeal that was to follow.

I am about to embark upon it tonight.

On a different note, The RDBMS paper could've been cracked by a 5th sem student. It makes me wonder about the sanity of the University authorities. What's the purpose of studying a subject for 6 months (Officially, that is) if nothing based upon it is going to be asked. Offcourse I do not believe it is the way to go for testing somebody's ahem ... knowledge ... but since that is what the University says ( I mean testing someone's knowledge based upon a written exam) why do they not practise what they preach???
It is at this juncture that I find it fit to mention that I ,like most of my colleagues I am sure, am in ,no absolute way, complaining about the lack of germane questions from this semester's syllabus.

Anyways, like always, this is all I choose to share for now. No further for now.
Goodnight

The Original Bboy

I've been playing the guitar for most part of the day today. Reminds me of the good ol' days.
Liberating.

In other news, Sodhi was Breakdancing in front of Katani. I am not kidding here. It was authentic too. Serious. Ask him if you choose to. He knows he really was ... breakdancing there.

I've travelled all over Chd today. This and that.

Been pondering a lot.
Again, liberating ...

Insomnia

Approximately 16 hours to go before the RDBMS exam commences. Preparation has being going on fine so far.
I haven't slept for well over 24 hours now.

Oh and RDBMS reminds me ...
Now that the Lab is finally over I would like to take this oppurtunity to let it be known that most of X1's passwords in the RDBMS Lab were compromised.

Now you know why your tables kept disappearing mysteriously !!!

Never underestimate the power of Brute Force hacks !

And Anjali ... anju isn't exactly a foolproof password. I was thinking of listing all the user names and passwords for X1 but I have an examination to tackle tomorrow so that is not an feasible option.

If you think this is shocking ... wait till college is over for good. I have some rather startling revelations to make . Muahaha ( Grin's an evil grin and rubs his hands together)

While still on the subject, I discovered yet another Windows security flaw. It enables an administrator (or even a Power user I think) to reset absolutely any Windows password or any other passwords stored in the Windows environment (that includes stuff like your Internet Connection Passwords, Outlook passwords, installed software passwords, Hotmail passwords etc).

Fun.

Here'a repetition of something I've already mentioned in the past. Do NOT access any site requiring your private information in the college premesis.
It isn't the safest of places. Take my word for it. (snicker).

Enough of this.
I have a date with databases that I cannot fail to keep.

Goodnight ( Ironic !)

A Change of Heart

I am back !
Atleast for now.

I've been thinking :

Men go to far greater lengths to avoid what they fear than to obtain what they desire.

Just wondering in general.

P.S- @ Chitra ... I know. There are ways of finding out. I shall leave it at that.

Good Night

Is This Goodbye?

This might very well be the beginning of the end of this blog.
I look around and all I see is people taking up blogging to make a fashion statement. I find that pathetic. Don't turn this into a popularity contest. PLEASE.

Self expression is dying. On my blog as well I think. It is already dead at most other places.
Worthwhle posts have been on a decline here. Wish I could have the old days back.
People who have no idea of expression have taken to blogging and people who I believe are the ones who should be blogging in the first place don't. You may choose to feel insulted or complimeted. It makes no difference to me. This is directed to most people in general.

The reason why I visit only a select few blogs now is because I do not find anything worthwhile on most blogs. By worthwhile i mean possessing content that is from the heart or genuine or plain old logical facts. Those sort of things. I overlook all these points, though, if I find the language of a particular post, or blog in general, to be specially beautiful and well woven. Rarely have I come across that though.
It's similar to journalism if you look at it. There are very few newspaper (blogs) that have articles (posts) that make sense. That makle you feel like going through them.
I never wished for this blog to be made public. I merely forgot to add code that causes Google's bots not to index this blog so that it doesnt show up in Google's (or any other engine's ) search results.
Ahh... that is my fault though.

I am not planning on quitting blogging completely though. I only plan to post my more serious, and perhaps germane, posts on another blog which shall not be accessed by anyone. No amount of Google searches shall provide any links to it and neither shall I be generous enough to provide anyone with the link to it.
Maybe that way I can maintain some of the sanctity of this art they call blogging.

Offcourse this is still just a thought.
Who knows ... there may be hope for this blog yet.

So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have you found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

Goodnight

Vacation

I've studied nothing today. That is correct. Nothing. Naught. Zilch. Nix.
My schedule ,though, is still on track !
I have been watching movies all day long and I do not feel any remorse for that.

Oh and if anybody out there is willing to Beta Test Symantec's products (The Norton Series and more) then do let me know.
The Beta Tests are for their 2007 line.
In other news ... I'm finally giving communities like hi5 and orkut some respect. I still cannot fathom how people can spend endless hours on them though.
To each his own.

I shall bid adieu here.
Goodnight, Sleep tight and don't let the bedbugs bite.

The Final Countdown

I've been studying by day and partying by night.
Things have balanced them out pretty well till now actually.
I was sure about the partying but the studying part has been taken care of as well.

By partying , here, I imply watching movies at night (on the comp) along with Pepsi and other junk food. I'm taking full advantage of BSNL's happy hours these days ... oops ... I mean nights !

I'm right on schedule for now. You see each time before the exams I plan out my entire schedule. One thing that I always make sure is to include enough time for lying around, wasting time etc.
It makes me feel conmortable ... secure ... that everything's alright. That might be weird but that's just me.

As already mentioned, I have been rewatching the classics lately. The Godfather Trilogy heads the list here. I watch one part a day. Started off with the trilogy yesterday but have been watching motion pictures all week long. This is strange especially when you consider the fact that I'm nowhere near what one would term a movie buff.
It's funny what the exams can cause a person to do or become. Haha.
I guess, though, in my case the exams don't really make much of a difference !!!
Hah. hope you got that. I Doubt if you have.

Goodnight

The Weekend's Here

Well, I've held back for very long and I'm going to eb ordering food home after atleast 8 months.
I also plan on having Pepsi/Coke. C'mon one day won't kill me. And it's not like I've sworn off them !
I'm having the world's best tasting chocolate pastry as I type this.
You see the weekend is here and as is now customary with me, I party by myself at night on weekends. That accounts for the initial sentences.
I've been studying SE as well. There's a slight problem though. Everybody whom I've asked for the syllabus has given me a different version and I am obfuscated as a result. There's talk about the exams being postponed but I do not think that that will materialise.

I've stood by my resolution to reduce the time I spend with my beloved machine (read my comp).
Wow ... this pastry really is mindblowing !!!

I plan to watch The Recruit again. Pacino is God.

A thousand Shahrukhs cannot equal him. Period. i'm narrow minded about this so it's no use arguing.

Watch any Pacino flick and then watch the best Shahrukh flick. You shall know the difference.
I know there are going to be Mr> Khan's defenders (most of them females I'll bet) but I shall stick by my stance on this one no matter what.
Only Brando's name should be spoken in the same breath.

Goodnight
A.G

Far Away

This time, This place
Misused, Mistakes
Too long, Too late
Who was I to make you wait
Just one chance
Just one breath
Just in case there's just one left
'Cause you know,
you know, you know

[CHORUS]
That I love you
I have loved you all along
And I miss you
Been far away for far too long
I keep dreaming you'll be with me
and you'll never go
Stop breathing if
I don't see you anymore

On my knees, I'll ask
Last chance for one last dance
'Cause with you, I'd withstand
All of hell to hold your hand
I'd give it all
I'd give for us
Give anything but I won't give up
'Cause you know,
you know, you know

[CHORUS]

So far away
Been far away for far too long
So far away
Been far away for far too long
But you know, you know, you know

I wanted
I wanted you to stay
'Cause I needed
I need to hear you say
That I love you
I have loved you all along
And I forgive you
For being away for far too long
So keep breathing
'Cause I'm not leaving you anymore
Believe it
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Keep breathing
'Cause I'm not leaving you anymore
Believe it
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Keep breathing
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Keep breathing
Hold on to me and, never let me go

The Day So Far

The datesheet is out.
I'm, therefore, dead.
The exams start form the 26th of this month. I know nothing of SE, RDBMS and RTOS.
The other 3 aren't exactly known to me but atleast things aren't bad as they are in the above mentioned subjects.

I've done 5 chapters of SE so far today and if evrything goes well I should be able to finish off anothet two tonight. However, knowing myself I doubt if that shall happen. I'm surprised I managed to do the 5 I already have !

Been sampling the bass intro of Break Me Shake Me (Savage Garden) today.
Fits well in the larger scheme of things (especially with an increase in the bass frequencies - 200 to be exact). Aah you won't understand !

I've been listening to Hanson a lot lately. Brings back memories ...
If you ever find time, do listen to Penny and Me and Mmmbop. Both are Hanson tracks and beautiful. Both the originals and acoustic versions are breathtaking.

Anyways, I shall bid adieu for now.

Goodnight.
A.G

Mmmbop (Hanson) :

You have so many relationships in this life
Only one or two will last
You go through all the pain and strife
Then you turn your back and they're gone so fast
Oh yeah
And they're gone so fast, yeah
Oh
So hold on the ones who really care
In the end they'll be the only ones there
And when you get old and start losing your hair
Tell me who will still care
Can you tell me who will still care?
Oh care

Mmmbop, ba duba dop
Ba du bop, ba duba dop
Ba du bop, ba duba dop
Ba du
Yeah
Mmmbop, ba duba dop
Ba du bop, Ba du dop
Ba du bop, Ba du dop
Ba du
Yeah

Oh yeah
In an Mmmbop they're gone
Yeah yeah

Plant a seed, plant a flower, plant a rose
You can plant any one of those
Keep planting to find out which one grows
It's a secret no one knows
It's a secret no one knows
Oh, no one knows

Mmmbop, ba duba dop
Ba du bop, ba duba dop
Ba du bop, ba duba dop
Ba du, yeah
Mmmbop, ba duba dop
Ba du bop, Ba du dop
Ba du bop, Ba du dop
Ba du, yeah

Oh
Yeah oh

In an mmm bop they're gone
Oh yeah oh
In an mmmbop they're gone
In an mmm bop they're not there
In an mmmbop they're gone
In an mmm bop they're not there
In an mmmbop they're gone
In an mmmbop they're not there
In an mmmbop they're gone
In an mmmbop they're not there
Until you lose your hair
Oh
But you don't care

Yeah
Oh yeah oh oh
So hold on the ones who really care
In the end they'll be the only ones there
And hen you get old and start losing your hair
Tell me who will still care
Can you tell me who will still care?
Oh care

Can you tell me? oh
No you can't 'cause you don't know
Can you tell me? oh
You say you can but you don't know
Can you tell me? oh
(Which flower's going to grow?)
No you can't 'cause you don't know
Can you tell me? oh
(If it's going to be a daisy or a rose?)
You say you can but you don't know
Can you tell me? oh
(which flower's going to grow?)
No you can't 'cause you don't know
Can you tell me? oh
You say you can but you don't know
Oh yeah
You say you can but you don't know
You dont know
You dont know, oh

Oh
Can u tell me? oh
No you can't 'cause you don't know
Can u tell me? oh
You say you can but you don't know
Can u tell me? oh
No you can't 'cause you don't know
Can u tell me?
You say you can but you don't know

The Truth About Fear

What is fear? An emotion. A strong emotion. A very strong emotion. Despite it's translation as a sign of weakness it is one emotion that has been loyal to mankind all along.

I do not understand why people are ashamed of it?
Everybody has it. Anyone who says they don't are bluffing.

Fear is not a burden we are forced to carry. I choose to interpret it as one of the most potent weapons I posess.

Another thing - One man's fear CAN be another man's object of ridicule. Relax, you needn't lose sleep over that.

Here's my biggest fear - Not being able to look at myself in the mirror at the end of the day ... not being able to forgive myself for something.

I hope you understand what I'm trying to say here.

It is this a single fact that makes me act the way I do a lot of times.
Thankfully, I haven't had to face my greatest fear so far. I believe this is not merely due to luck but due to the fact that I usually try everything within my power to avoid the confrontation and it is to avoid this very confrontation that I am willing to push myself ... beyond my limits ... physical and emotional.

All of us do the same ... subconsciously , most of the times though.

Here's one thing I've realised ... The stronger the fear the better are your chances of excelling. I know this sounds contradictory. Ponder over it. It isn't. If you can justify this statement then you are half way there.

The most common example that comes to my mind right now is the fear of failure. If you look at students the fear of failure (academically) equals flunking the majors. This fear, in turn, drives a student to study for them thus enabling him/her to avoid the flunking. The stronger the fear, the harder the student studies and the greater are his chances of actually learning something and avoiding the dreaded 33% deadline.

I'd love to quote some more examples but I think this one should suffice for now.

Fear is ,in a larger sense, responsible to an extent, in shaping me into who I am today and you know? I am not ashamed of the person I am today. not in the slighest bit.

Thank you, fear. You've been faithful.

Boring

The ATM viva was conducted today.
The external invigilator finally showed up at around 1:30 or so.
Her Highness then proceeded with the vivas. Mine went pretty well.
Came home. Have been on the comp as usual.
I plan to waste my time in Chandigarh today.
I plan to watch The Da Vinci Code on the first day of it's release (19th). I only hope to get tickets for the same.
I've been playing Mario Forever on my PC. I don't play games at all, much, though. Roadrash was the last game I was addicted to (on the comp that is). I love my Playstation though. Gran Turismo is amazing. Not to mention the other hundreds of titles ! heh.

Oh and another thing, everybody who's been selected for Infy keeps talking about the pool, the gym, the hostel room etc. I think there's just one tiny little detail they overlooked. THE WORK.

From what I've read up, people don't get enough time to visit the gym even once let alone go there regularly. I believe I shall have to work hard for the first time in my life at Infy. Here's hoping for the best.

Anyways, I must go save the Toadstool Kingdom from the clutches of the evil Koopa. You see he plans to take it over. I'm the only only hope of the Toadstool people.
So long then.

Spicy Chicken Salad

Mr. Saini, Mr. Berry and I went for a movie after the viva today. Zarutha. It's a sequel to Jumanji and if you did not like Jumanji then watching this is not advisable.

Another thing that is not advisable is ordering Spicy Chicken Salad at Ruby Tuesdays. Not only will it set you back by Rs. 221 but you shall get a mere handfull, no wait... even less than that, of cheese around which is wrapped the chicken. Not even enough for a mouse. No kidding. The only thing in abundance on the salad plate are the ... leaves... covered in some white fancy sauce. Eating them makes you feel like a cow chewing on cud. Only here, the cud is bitter. Very bitter.
I think inedible is the word.
They charge you for water as well.

Our visit to FR ended here. This was followed by a whirlwind trip to the Railway Station, unexplored parts of Chandigarh and to the Bus Stand. Do not ask me why or how.

We were, however, compensated for our measly lunch by a wholesome dinner. One whole chicken each was consumed by Mr. Berry and I while Messers Jha and Arneja took care of one and another half of it (They could'nt even finish that).

At around 9:30, we found ourselves on a bench in Phase 7 ( the four of us) discussing , funnily, things somehow related to academia. Not in the traditional sense though. More of like ... in a fun way... if that is even possible !!!

I asked my teachers for my internal assessments and, quite shockingly, they look pretty good. I'm ahead of Mr. Gupta in some subjects. A feat rarely achieved by most us, mind you.
What is even more surprising is the fact that the teachers say that all my vivas have gone exceptionally well when I know that I know nothing about anything this sem and almost every answer I have given this time around has been more or less a fluke.

If lady luck is a woman then I think I'm engaged to her right now !

Ok ok that may have been corny but I'm sure you get the general idea.
What if Luck isn't just pure coincidence?
What if there's logic behind it?
What if , instead of luck favouring the brave, favours those who actually try make things happen?
Offcourse, I'm not one of them.
I'm just plain lucky !!!

;)

Kidding.
Lucky and destiny are not decided by fate but our own selves.
The future, its yours, embrace it.

College on Sundays

I was out all night with JBSB. We literally went places (Half of Chandigarh included).
Finally ate at Fusion at 12:30 or so. All other eating joints were closed you see.

I finally hit the sack at around 4:00. Was forced to wake up at 10:00 thanks to Sobby; again.
Said he wanted me to come to college with him for Nid's birthday. So that explains why he asked me to order the , in his words " aadha kilo, eggless, chocolate flavoured, heart shaped cake."

Imagine going to college on Sunday ! I guess the free cake and Pepsi compensated for the damages to an extent.

Watched the Live in Texas video again (That's LP , by the way).
Chester's screams are worth the wait.

I have my SE viva tomorrow and I know not a single word. No exaggerations here. I only have a faint idea about the names of the various models. Win-win, Spiral, Cocomo ... Hey I know three names already! Whoopie!!!

I've heard we need to cover ERP, MRP, DFDs, SDLC and the models.
Shouldn't be ahem ... In Mr. Berry's words "Much of a fight".

Anyways, I have just xeroxed IP Kaur's notes. God bless her.

Meri Degree uhde aasre hi chaldi aa
.

While still on the topic here's news.
IP is PARANOID when it comes to lizards. She cannot stand the sight of them.
Have you ever seen a female standing on top of a table screaming?
I and Abhinav have !!!

Boy, females sure are weird. REALLY WEIRD !
Thank God I'm male . Haha
Hehe Ok Ok I was kidding.
Everybody has the right to have their own fears.
BUT C'MON..........LIZARDS??
It's strange how women have no problem in waxing their legs threading their brows, ripping the hair right out of their root, not letting out so much as a moan and yet be afraid of lizards, cockroaches et al.

Haha. This is one up for the guys !

Goodnight

Serendipitous Randomosity

The title of this post goes out to Mr. Berry.
There... happy???

By the way, I really DID know the meaning of serendipity.

I have just woken up thanks to Sobby's incessant calling.

We are having our external vivas these days. So far so good.

Sodhi's having a bad week so far. Hope the tables turn soon.

I'm startinig to get irritated by Hardy's questions on BitTorrent and Azureus. I've explained the whole concept to him and he keeps asking me the same questions over and over again.

The punk says that he's understood everything and then calls up later asking me the very same questions. Mumble grumble. Somebody's gonna die by my hands and it ain't gonna be pretty. (Wow, my first use of slang on the blog, I think.)

I must leave for now for I have to attend to matters that can no longer be postponed.

Oh and I got a call from Infy. Not bad eh?
Adios

Echo

I believe I need to write a lot tonight but I choose not to.

I shall leave with this

Echo - Trapt

Close my eyes
Let the whole thing pass me by
There is no time
To waste asking why
I'll run away with you by my side
I'll run away with you by my side
I need to let go, let go, let go, let go of this pride,
(Asking why)

I think about your face
And how I fall into your eyes
The outline that I trace
Around the one that I call mine
Time that called for space
Unclear where you drew the line
I don't need to solve this case
And I don't need to look behind

Do I expect to change, the past I hold inside,
with all the words I say,
repeating over in my mind,
somethings you can't erase, no matter how hard you try,
an exit to escape is all there is left to find.

Close my eyes
Let the whole thing pass me by
There is no time
To waste asking why
I'll run away with you by my side
I'll run away with you by my side
I need to let go, let go, let go, let go of this pride,
Until this echo, echo, echo, echo in my mind
Until this echo, echo, echo, echo can subside

(I know I always loved you)
(I know I always loved you)
(I know I always loved you)

So I close my eyes
Let the whole thing pass me by
There is no time
To waste asking why
I'll run away with you by my side
I'll run away with you by my side
I need to let go, let go, let go, let go of this pride,
Until this echo, echo, echo, echo in my mind
Until this echo, echo, echo, echo can subside

Infosys

That's been the buzz word all day long.

Logical reasoning , here, isn't as easy as you may presume it to be.

English, on the other hand, can prove to be a little too easy.

All in all, if you have brain coupled with commonj sense or tact you should be able to get through.

They say the results are going to be out at around 9:30 P.M . not expecting anything though !

Anywyas, I am pretty much saturated with Infy talk for now (and maybe forever!).

I finally formatted my system today. I had planned to do it last November but procrastination can be a dangerous thing at times.
I shall not go into the reasons for the format here. Just know this - This previously slugging machine is now a gigabyte processing beast. It is unbelievably fast, I mean UNBELIEVABLY !!!

I shall leave it at this for I must go and have fun with my ahem ... beast.
Hah ... bring on the supercomputers ?

Thinking Up a Title, As Previously Mentioned, Can be Hard.

Somehow everybody I've been in contact with since morning today is elated for no particular reason.

I love lady's finger.I mean not lady's fingers but the vegetable.

Mom makes the world's greatest chocolate milk, souffle (eat your heart out Arneja), chocolate cake etc etc etc.

You seriously are missing out on something if you haven't tasted any of these.

I hate looking into mirrors. I wonder how women( and quite a few men) are so fond of them.

My 16 bit DOS subsystem is back on track and hotmail's servers don't support relaying restrictions !!!Muahahha.

Here's more info ... The Theory of Relativity rocks .

Aah ... disconnected thoughts.

I had better log off for now.Goodnight.A.G

Playstation 3 and More

Ok first of all

IP Kaur :
You have an infinite capacity for talking. That may not always be necessarily bad though.
When it comes to talking on the phone, you are the female version of Ashish.

The problem with Rajdeep Singh (Y group) is that he's too busy trying to prove his worthiness to everyone. @ Rajdeep, Where does the buck stop? I think it's about time you decided that.

Moving on.
I'm waiting for PS3. It's going to be released sometime in November since Sony has pushed it's release date back again.

It's going to be Blu Ray enabled.

It's Cell processor has been custom built by IBM.
The cool part here is that it is a vector processor and not your currently immensly popular scalar processors.
This simply means that the "Cell" has the potential to execute several data blocks at once.

Cool.
It is SIMD in nature ( Single Instruction Multiple Data) and packed with a whopping 240 million + transistors. Hell, even the most powerful PC processors might not be able to compare to that.

There is a combo of 8 processors (7 working and 1 as a backup). They're around 3.2 or 3.4 GHz. I do not remember the exact config.

Their hi-fi name is Synergising Processing Elements.

Guess what? It's got Power PC architecture (the same as the Macs).

And now ... the main component that's gonna be responsible for those mega awesome graphicas you're going to be witnessing - The RSX Reality Synthesizer. This is basically the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) and corresponds to the Emotion Engine that did the work in PS1 and PS2 . Only this time around, the RSX is a little too powerful.

Take my word for it.
It's been developed by NVidia.
The cool part about PS3 is that it is backward compatible with PS1 and PS2. This implies that you can play your older ocnsole games on it as well.

Sony's included support for everything other than a floppy disk in it.

Another greatly anticipated enhancement has been the built in network adapter (Ethernet ? I'm not sure about that). You don't have to purchase it separately.

Now since it has USB support you can interface 8 comtrollers at once !!!

Rocking.

The unveiling of PS3's power was done at E3 2005. (Electronic Entertainment Expo 2005, in case you didn't know.) and it created a storm thanks to the mindblowingly megacool graphics.(RSX - Take a bow).

The PS3 has enough firepower to run any modern computer on it's own. That should give you folks an idea about it's computational power.

I'm sorry I was just too excited about this and I've held this back for a looooooooong time.

I know I promised to keep this blog technically free but I cannot help it sometimes.

Who knows? I might just follow this up with an Xbox explanation !!!
Hah.
Goodnight.

Ok Ok it's not the gloved one. It's some other punk.

Hehe.
I'm off.

What's This World Coming To?

Here's breaking news :

Shocked me to the core. No kidding.

Ms. Sarin, Mr. Anand, Ms. Sehmbey (Some of the big guns of our class ) and many many more in our class do not know how to create user accounts in Windows.

Holy Mother of God !!!

In addition to this , most people in class do not know the meaning of the words "wicked (!)" and "ambience".

Of what use is bookish knowledge if you know nothing about your field , about how things actually come together in the real world? How things practically function.

It's not like making user accounts in Windows is complicated or even remotely close to that.

I only wish to drive home the point that if you (the person reading this) do not have the answer to this question then I hope , for humanity's sake, that you are not related, directly or indirectly, to computers or information technology or wait ... to anything technical.

Among all the people surveyed (and they were quite a few) only 2 females (Ms. Aditi Pal and Ms. Manpreet - Jivesh's better half) and 1 male (Mr. Amardev Singh) had the answer to this question.

Most (but not all ) people from class were asked this.

Moving on to the meanings of the words.

Almost nobody knows what wicked and ambience mean.

Is this just me or is the world really filled with idiots?

The ones who did know the meanings to these words were Ms. Aditi Pal, Ms. Manpreet, Mr. Amardev Singh (I gave him the benefit of doubt for ambience though) Ms. Sarin ( I didn't ask her for I could not find her at that time but I assure you that it can safely be assumed that she knows what they mean).
I also expect Mr. Anand to be familiar with the words. I hope the same holds true for Ms. Sehmbey as well.

Now, the general feeling in class, nowadays, is that everybody wants to be placed in a good company (Congratulations Sunish and Ripu, by the way).

So we all want to be placed in a good company when we know nothing about what programming languages really are or what the basic concepts of ANYTHING are.

In IP Kaur's words Company vaale to humari ukhaad denge

But seriously ... would you hire you?

Your answer to this question should set the ball rolling.

I am reminded of a line from The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner here :

Water water everywhere and not a drop to drink

I hereby rechristen (Please tell me you know what this means. If you don't then just pretend you do for now. I cannot take any more shocks for today.) ... anyways as I was saying ... I hereby rechristen the above line as :

Idiots Idiots everywhere and not a brain to think.

Here's some more truth.

Most people in class have never used a pen drive.
Most people in class have never even seen one.
Most people in class do not know how to install an Operating System; ANY Operating System.

Most people in class have passwords to their messanger, email, Oracle accounts (etc) that can very easily be cracked. (Take my word for it ;) )

Mostr people do not know who Craig Barrett is.
Most people in class cannot create a bootable disk.
Most people in class have never seen/used a zip drive.
Most people in class think Opera is a form of art related to music (If they know the meaning of Opera in the first place).

Most people in class do not know the difference between a virus and a worm.

I can go on and on with this list but I hope you get the general idea.
Please please please make me eat my words.
Please prove me wrong.
I'm begging you.

It is apt here to mention that I am no tech guru. Heck, I'm not even close but rest assured I can definitely answer questions related to creating user accounts in Windows !!!

Another thing that I would like to mention here is that I did not intend to insult any of you (the people mentioned in this post). I can only hope you take this in the right vein and that this post serves as a window to where we really stand with respect to our current technical pursuits.

Many of you may take an offence to this.
If you do then you fall in the category of "Most people" mentioned in the post.
Offcourse, this does not imply that if you do not take offence to this then you don't get included in that bracket but I'm sure you get the idea.

I personally believe that Most People, here, includes around 95% (or more) females and 80-85% males (or more !!!) in class.
That's the way the cookie crumbles.
In Ms. Sarin's words, No Hard Feelings ...

Viva Season

Yes folks, it's here.
Had RDBMS and IBS today. Both went surprisingly well especially when you consider the fact that I know zilch about both subjects.
ATM is up next. If the viva is file based then the viva should be a piece of cake. If not , well... things might just be a little different.
Might go for a movie tonight.
Let's see.
